gurney traded to the pats for a 6th round draft pick. In my opinion I don’t think the Hitmen used him in the right way. Regina picked up a good player that has potential, also it is his upcoming draft year in 2019. and with Regina losing a lot of players he could be potentially playing a lot of minuites in the future with them.

I don't want to wrongly observe your "I don't think the Hitmen used him in the right way" term, but if your meaning that Gurney deserved more ice time such as more PP or PK or even more ice time with better players I just don't see the justification. You look post deadline and with a top 9 of Stukel, Coleman, Kastelic, Stotts, Kryski, Focht, Chaulk, Nielsen, Wiesblatt there really wasn't much room for Gurney. I can agree that Gurney still has potential, but you can say the same thing about every other 16 or 17 year old in the league. If a GM didn't see potential or some growth in a player they wouldn't be in the league. Next year is a big year for Gurney and he should be thankful he is headed to Regina and will most likely see a minutes increase. Where if he were to stay in Calgary he most likely would have occupied his 4th line role once again. I know lots of people don't like the +/- stat but with him being -24 in limited minutes while putting up 1 goal and 4 points isn't great. His number also didn't improve from year 1 to year 2. He will need a big year 3 in order to show he belongs in the league.

I liked Gurney his first year here. I thought he was significantly less impressive this past year though. We can argue forever about whether they used him the right way but I can't remember a single shift he took this year where he was noticeable for a good reason. If you don't do anything with the ice time you're given, you probably won't get MORE ice time next game.

Good luck to him in Regina. They need bodies next year and I'm sure he will get far more ice time there than he would here. Tons of opportunities to prove the Hitmen made a mistake.

For the Hitmen, it was a move they had to make. They had 11 forwards eligible to return from this year's team so roster spots had to be freed up to make room for prospects. Now there's 10 returnees, so they can probably add four rookies - Bryce Bader and Ryder Korczak would be good guesses, plus I suspect there will be a new Euro at forward (we'll have to see what they do about the Yeryomenko/Zamula situation) and you have to have room for Josh Prokop if he decides to come to the WHL....and maybe a kid like Niedermayer or Kwiatkowski too.
