I just want to say a few words about my friend from Birmingham, Nobby88 who died on the 23rd of August 2007.

Born on the 11th of July 1968, he was not even 40 when he died. He last visited this site just one week before he died on August 14 2007 at 09:29 am, though he did not post. I remember seeing him here.

Nobby was an active member of the old JT Forum. He joined having heard of the JT Forum on the UKMHOF site. He noticed the JT Forum site when attention was drawn on UKMHOF to Mesostim's hilarious 'Alex & Carrie' thread, a satire of the second series of the BBC's Fame Academy.

He joined at the same time as other friends from UKMHOF ... KingArthur, Rap Scallion (Northern Git) & Nefertiti (Foxylady Dee).

When the JT Forum closed, Nobby joined this site on it's opening date & bacame member No6 of JT Refugees.

Nobby played an active part in both Forums, taking part in our 'Virtual BB' game, & making many contributions, particularly to our Music & BB forums. He was my companion on the Apprentice Forum & when he stopped posting there after each episode, as he had done in the past, I guessed that his condition was perhaps getting worse.

Nobby's contributions were always of value. He only posted when he had something of worth (or wit) to say. He was always a gentleman, with feet firmly on the ground.

I never met Nobby in person, nor did I ever speak to him. But, for several years, we shared the same small corners of the internet. We exchanged birthday & Christmas wishes, shared anecdotes about our lives, informed each other of things of mutual interest, entertained one another ... all the things that friends do.

RIP Nobby88 & thankyou for being my friend.

And here is a link to the thread that Nobby started, in which he posted his views of music gigs that he had visited. This thread will remain pinned to the top of the Music forum as a lasting memory of Nobby88 & as a mark of our respect.

Oh gosh, I'm so sorry to hear about nobby :( knew he was poorly but I didn't realise the illness was at such an advanced stage.
He was so young, it's tragic, I never spoke to him or met him but I enjoyed conversing with him on here and the old JT site and I feel like I knew him in a way.

He'll be missed, he was one of the good ones.

God bless Nobby.

Eddy, your tribute is wonderful.

When I first read the post on the 'chat' thread I didn't believe it...the truth is I simply didn't want to believe it. As Eddy mentioned I first 'met' Nobby88 on the UKMHOF site and quickly grew to both like and respect him. Our taste in music had a similar vein though by no means was identical. In any debate or discussion Nobby was always polite and courteous and I hope with him I responded likewise.

You only have to read his many gig reports to tell how much music meant to him, it enriched his life as he enriched ours. He also seemed to havce a zest for life in general, the last post I can recall him making was when he was about to celebrate his Birthday with obvious relish.

I feel sick to my stomach that it has taken such a tragedy to inform me just how much our "cyber friends" can mean to us, since reading of Nobby's untimely passing I have been in a daze.

God Bless You Nobby, I will miss you. RIP.

I am so shocked and saddened to read this I didn't know he was so ill.
As I surf around the net at ever increasing speeds I always stopped to enjoy Nobby's latest gig reports even if I never logged in.
His posts were unfailingly lively and informative and I have picked up on many bands and music I wouldn't have normally listened to after reading Nobby's enthusiastic championing - two I remember recently being CSS and The Wonderstuff....
I didn't know him in the real world but liked and admired him through his contributions to this and the UKHOF forum.
I will miss him. A lot.
RIP and best wishes to his family.

I'm very sad to read this news - and I regret that I had no idea that Nobby was unwell.

Logging on just now - and reading this wonderful tribute from Eddy to his friend is deeply moving and goes to show the strength of friendships formed on the web.

Nobby's wonderful gig reports are part of the backbone to this and the old JT Forum. Always lively and interesting, we're all going to miss him terribly :(

RIP Nobby

Hello everyone, I'm so sorry to hear this. I'm sorry i've not been around much...
Pete informed last nite, via text, about Nobby's untimely death. I'm absolutely gutted.
Like most people, i never actually met the fella, but always got on well with him and enjoyed reading his gig reviews.
This is such sad news and i'm gonna miss him, I didn't even know he was seriously ill...
R.I.P. SIR NOBS.

ps. Have any of his friends or family been on the site? Would be wonderful to have a photo of him, eh?

I'm shocked and very sad after discovering this tonight. I never even knew he was ill. I guess all I really knew about Nobby is that he supported Aston Villa, and he was always listening to lots of new music in his car. Which is how I like to remember him, 'cos that's what made him happy, going by his posts.

Jeez! In these circumstances 'I don't know what to say' is a cliche, but it happens to be true, though Zep's words above express pretty much exactly how I thought of Nobby too.

I also 'knew' Nobby from the Radio 2 forum (which I think he introduced me to and where he posted as thevillan82) and the Steve Hoffman forum (as Nobby the Villain). I thought I'd not seen him at either of those recently, but as I said, I never even guessed he was ill.

(a question: do you all think I should mention this sad news at those sites?; my instinct is maybe to do so at R2, where he was quite a regular contributor, but maybe not at the Hoffman site, where he didn't post so often, and which has such a vast membership that it's easier to get 'lost in the crowd' there, if you see what I mean. I can also post a link here of all Nobby's posts at the R2 forum, if you think that's appropriate. Guidance appreciated on both matters.)

RIP Nobby, condolences to your family and close friends. Thinking of you.

Hi AveryKG.

I would love a link to Nobby's posts on the R2 forum.

If he had a lot of friends on the R2 forum, I think you should let them know. Post a link here as I would be interested what others had to say about this lovely man. Post a link back here if you think it's appropriate.

23 page tribute thread to Nobby on the C4 Forums.

There's a 23 page (and growing) tribute to Nobby at the C4 Forums where a lot more info can be found.

So far, I have only read the first 6 pages. Unfortunately it looks like like Nobby was let down by his GP.

Nobby's friends on the C4 Forums are in touch with his family. I plan to write to the thread-starter at C4 over the weekend.

The C4 Community Forum's tribute to Nobby can be found here. Click this.

Nobby's signature on the C4 Forums was:

"if I leave here tomorrow will you remember me"

I'm pleased to say that Nobby is remembered, loved & missed by dozens & dozens & dozens.

Thanks to ccuuttiieex for helping me find the thread at the C4 Forums.

Thanks Eddy. If you go to page 23 there is a nice message from his father. I'm still in shock.

Thanks KA.

Here is the message sent to by Nobby's parents to his tribute thread at the C4 Community Forums. I took the liberty of copying it.

'CLARK

CHRISTOPHER ANDREW GEORGE
“NOBBY”

Rosa & George wish to thank everyone, family, friends, neighbours and colleagues at Tulgrove for their cards, messages of sympathy, floral tributes and donations to Cancer Research UK (in excess of £700), at the devastating loss of our dear and treasured son.

We also wish to thank the Canon Stephen Mayes for the wonderful service he conducted.

Chris suffered in silence, with dignity and never complained or asked “Why Me”.

He will be forever in our thoughts and our hearts.

Avery, I used to post on the radio 2 forum until they shut down a load of the boards. A lot of us moved to another site, it is therefore possible, probable even that some people there knew him. If you like I will let them know about nobby.

Okay Eddy, thanks.

Apologies for delayed response (combination of Mrs KG's having stuff for me to do today, and when I logged in to the site at work earlier, no 'quote' or 'reply' buttons - most odd!)

Anyway, I'll write something suitable to post at the R2 site this weekend, but meanwhile here are all threads Nobby (thevillan82) contributed to at the Radio 2 music messageboard (this list doesn't provide all a member's posts - just the last time they contributed to that particular thread - click on the date next to 'Last Contribution' to go to that message).

I was also going to provide a link to his posts at www.stevehoffman.tv, but when I tested it having logged out, it didn't work. You must have to join to use that feature.

I see references at R2 occasionally to the 'good old days' before they shut a lot of the boards. This must have been a long time before I joined, so I've no way of knowing if it was also before Nobby joined, but yeah, if you can remember him posting there in the 'old days', must be worth a mention.

If only this were in other circumstances, eh? The tribute thread on the C4 board is really touching. I read about 18 pages at work earlier, alt-tabbing back to the stupid spreadsheet when the boss came past. I think Nobby would have appreciated that!

I have only just seen this thread. It's so sad. I never really knew Nobby that well on the forums, but what I did read of his posts he always came across as such a warm natured person. I am deeply saddened at this news but also heartened to know Nobby had many friends.

Some of the tributes have been lovely to read. I didn't know Nobby88 as well as some of you here but I thought he seemed to have been a very pleasant man.

I am very sad and shocked to hear of his departure.

I give my regards to family and friends.

RIP Nobby88

Are we leaving this open then to any other RIP tributes?
I don't know who Colin is unfortunately but it's sad news. :(

I've now had a chance to read all the different threads on here relating to Nobby, and i looked at the c4 bb one too. All very upsetting. I've found myself crying about him on more than one occasion since first hearing the news. Does anyone a photo of him?

btw...I'd just like to make a correction to one line in Eddy's lovely opening post. I didn't arrive here from HOF...in the very very old days of jtforum i came here via a PM from me ol chum Alfie, on the bbc fame academy site. She'd sent me the Meso cartoon and i joined straight away. I was here for quite a while before Zep n our dear departed Nobby n Scarlet etc arrived. My name, in those days, was THE ANTI-CRUST! In fact, it was me who was writing about jtforum on the c4 HOF forum and i invited the guys to come over. It was quite a challenge to keep 'em here coz they were used to the many rows n arguments on the music forum at c4 and found it a little too 'quiet' here...coz we were, by and large, a nicer bunch lol!

I'm very very glad that Nobby, Zeppy, Scarlet n Avery stayed with us. :)

Hi Dee. This thread is a tribute for our friend Nobby & for no one else. (There was some confusion earlier but this has now been resolved.)

I've tried to find a photo of Nobby but have so far failed. I may mention this over on the C4 forum's tribute thread to Nobby. It would be nice to have one.

Apologies for getting it wrong about your arrival at this site. Thanks for reminding me. It all seems so very long ago, but I'm just so pleased that we have all found each other & that we can continue to remember & honour Nobby on this site.

I still can't believe that he has gone.
