I think the barber did a great job - it's nice and tidy up top on your scalp, but a little wilder down below through your stache and beard - this usually pairs together well.

Well it’s been 1.5 years since I’ve posted and unfortunately just after my last post I shaved the beard and have been beardless ever since, this was mainly down to my barber making an absolute mess of it and basically cutting it off for me

I’ve now decided to give it another crack but to try and take a more relaxed approach, it’s still not what I wish for as it’s very thin on the sides but let’s see how it goes.

I have trimmed my moustache this time as it got in the way and I have trimmed the front and neck line slightly from time to time to try and tidy up.

I think i am around 8-9 weeks now

What do you think?

Chris

@smity give it some time to see if your cheeks have improved, you only have 5 weeks remaining to get to 13 weeks.  But I suggest, if you do not see significant improvement since last time, that you carve back to either a Balbo style or a circle beard.

BTW - How old are you?

Yeah I will see how it goes, I am 31 so was hoping to by now to be a better beard grower but I am trying to moisturise and use an exfoliating wash daily to maybe help. I did think about a ryker last time so will see. Hoping for a miracle haha

My own cheeks had less coverage than yours at 31, but they did slowly continue to improve as I aged.

Week 10?

Slow grower as before, still a week beard but I think I can see abit more growth than the previous time and I’m fairly ok with it so far.

Im trimming by moustache but not sure it looks ok?

What do you think?

Thanks

it is looking good. don't worry about your sides, if i saw you on the street you would appear as a normally and nicely bearded man. your stache trim looks good to me. if you want to go longer with your beard you might think about stop trimming it though. your moustache and your front are strong!

First, I endorse what @Alpine said.

More about your cheeks and mustache:
Your natural cheeklines have good symmetry, and the cheeks have developed enough that the two sides will be indistinguishable no later than eight weeks from now, even when your own worst critic looks closely in the mirror .
Your mustache looks OK now but will look even better when big enough to leave the lip somewhat visible in the non-smile state and completely hidden in the smile state.

Most neck hairs grow forward and under the chin, as well as downward: see here and there. (thanks to @nsr160 for permission!).

Thanks for you comments Alpine that’s good to know, I have good and bad days but I’m starting to feel more confident about it.

Thanks bud, I have shaved a few stray hairs from the top of my cheek line to try and keep it looking sharper not sure if I should keep doing that or just let it grow.

I tried to keep a longer moustache last time but it drove me mad which is why I’ve trimmed it back this time but we will see how it goes.

Thanks Gato, good to be going through the process again and hoping for a better outcome. I feel it’s improved slightly over last time

Your slight cheekline maintenance looks OK, but the natural line will look OK too. Your choice.

Have you read the topic thread, "Taming the Wild Mustache?" A few adaptations in how one eats and drinks really help.
Also, during the nasal symptoms of illness or allergy, no one else sees anything after one has used a tissue or handkerchief on one's mustache 😉 .

if you like the cheekline sharper, it is absolutely fine. sometimes we might be afraid of trimming too much, even if it is only several hairs. it is your beard though and you can make with it whatever you like. same goes with the moustache. some guys don't want it to be too long, even when they have longer beards. but like AmericanExtraMutt said: once you found out how to deal with it, it doesn't bother you anymore and it becomes a natural part of your beard. it takes some time, but it is no impossible or difficult thing...
