So here's a new update. I have a big competition in Austin in the next couple of weeks. I have pre-registered for the General Groomed category because that is basically the only one that my beard length qualifies for. I'm trying to grow it out so I don't want to set myself back much. I would have to trim a chunk off to get it evened out and competitive with the other groomed guys.
I tried a new thing today and I'm really happy with the results. I curled the beard. I was inspired by @bfrnr
and his greco/roman curls. This was just a first attempt and the pic doesn't really show it well, but I really like the way it came out. It makes the beard quite a bit shorter though, but doubles the density. this is still a little rough, but I'm going to keep practicing to get it neater between now and then. I think if I can get this techniques down I wont have to trim, except a few fly-a-ways just before the comp. This Competition is the big Austin Facial Hair Club's yearly one. It's on Feb 24.
the process to get here was not pretty though. Now that I kind of have an idea of what I'm going to do, I may try a cheap set of small rollers.
You know.... this is what I love about this board. I can talk to you guys about putting rollers in my hair, and you get what I'm talking about. No where else in the world.....
and here's how I did it...... I sectioned off parts of the beard (wet), twisted the area and then folded it back and held it with a rubber band until it dried. Took out the rubber bands and then applied some balm. Then just combed the whole thing out. It has held the shape all day so far.
