Mine is an incomplete H3, but the lines are there, just waiting to be filled. Don't think I'll ever be H3s, but that would be cool.

Great poll but I have some problems. I voted E5s because I have hair growing in zone 5. But the hair in zone 5 and partly in zone 4 are chest hairs. They are shorter than real beard hairs. You called it a chest beard (lol).

E means exceptionally. I would rather say "extra", most of the men where I live grow that high, so I can't call it exceptionally.

I believe I'm somewhere between MH and H. Ever since I began leaving my cheekline even more natural, I found hairs creeping higher and higher (hence the in between part.) As for neckline, I'm very much 1.

H1 myself. Even though I don't  have strong side coverage, it reaches up very high, which gives me hope for the future. The only hair on my neck is below my chin, but there are some transitionals on my Adams apple so H1 is only temporary. I'm 19.

I chose H4s, but it could have been H5s too, my neck and chest hairs connect, but not over the entire width, only in the middle.
Great poll, very nice systematic classification system! Is it your own or did it already exist? I guess it could later be expanded to include variants in the mustache and connectors too. And sometime, maybe even a classification of greying patterns? It would take a lot of observation and study, but I dont know if this was ever done before.

Thank you all for your votes and comments!

@Rockspider: Good question. From what I know there is only one study from the early '70s that looks at beard patterns. The same researcher (L.R. Setty) did a whole range of studies on chest, scrotal, ear, #%++$ shaft (!), and abdominal hair. (Basically comparing Caucasian and African-Americans, which would not really fly these days.) The studies for body hair are very involved in terms of combinations of features, but the one for beards only has 4 types, where the size (or absence) of the two indentations under the lower lip are used as the defining features. He just assumed that these were completely correlated to overall density and coverage. I just wonder if there is a better way to look at it, which is why I decided to create this poll as an experiment.

H3S, I guess.  Cheeks grow some hair all the way up to the cheekbones, but I keep the highest hairs shaved off.  Soul Patch? Thats a weird one as the patch hair grows long enough to cover two tiny bald spots at the crease of the lower lip where it meets the chin. I must have a short neck as I only have about two fingers between the Adams apple and the top of my chest hair. The chin beard grows down to cover the Adams apple, and the chest hairs can be part of the whole kit an caboodle when the beard is long enough.

I used to be a E3s+ (plus-for extra hairs) so that's how I voted. My ideal is a MH1s which is what I am now. Luckily my ideal was achievable by removing hairs rather than having to add.

I have strong cheekline on L and quite weak cheekline on H.

Since I am young, I think with time my cheekline will be strong on H, perhaps even a bit on E.

And my neckline on 3, it's pretty low.

So L3. To illustrate it, I attache the photo, when I just turned 17 and had stubble (after that I'm wearing full beard for more than year).

Interesting poll indeed. Although I had voted some time ago, and thought I had commented, I don't see my comment here, so maybe I didn't do that part.

I'd say, given the choices here, that I'm an H3s, but probably H2.5s would be more accurate if that was a choice, so I voted "other."

I am not able to vote for some reason (was there a window or something?)

But I'd say mine is somewhere between an MH2 to H2. My cheekbones are quite high so I am not sure how do I classify it. And I am happy with what I have. Soul patch, well I am young so I am hoping it'll fill over the years.
