Cheers mate.....im hoping so. Bloody annoying when I pamper it and then it doesn't behave!!  😁
I'm in for the long haul so I had better get used to it I suppose.......
Give it another month to six weeks or so and you'll once again be in charge of the situation :)

Yes, length and gravity will calm it down.
AEM's present thread
AEM's previous big beard journey thread

Even some medium-length beards do better with no neckline: most neck hairs grow forward and under the chin, as well as downward: see here and there. (thanks to nsr160 for permission!).

I suspect that there are a couple of things going on here.

Yes, the hairs may not behave exactly the way that you want them to at this length - and that will probably (but I offer no guarantee) improve with more length.  Beards sometimes have awkward lengths where they just don't behave well.  It partly depends on how thick/strong/coarse your beard hair is.  To be honest, it looks like your beard hair is pretty willful.

That being said, it still looks good to me.  Part of growing a beard - and especially a bigger beard - is accepting the fact that it's going to change the shape of your face.  It will make your face longer AND wider.  Although this needs a mental adjustment, the change isn't bad.

Mental adjustment is HUGE! This is my second rodeo and I still have big adjustments. The other thing to prepare for is awkward phases... Not just a phase but phases. It can be very frustrating. There are days where I just want to get the clippers and just say f it.. But, you weather through it and come out much richer in the end....

It's worth saying, the sides and underneath are predominantly grey hairs which seem coarser and drier.....im assuming this is why they are untamable atm....

Yep, it's strange how it's simply growing a beard but you have to be mentally prepared. I would imagine it's why most men give up with it or don't start in the first place......

The sides of my beard are really curly and despite the hairdryer and brush treatment and copious amounts of wax, they don't want to play ball!!
Within 1/2 an hour of said above, they curl outwards, as does the underside !!
Will this stop with more length or am I destined to have a beard twice as wide as my head!!??  Any comments/advice much appreciated........

i agree with all. you just have to let it grow longer to see how it adds to the beard. Curly isn’t a bad thing since it adds density also!!!!!

You are having fun, aren't you. Your beard seems to be racing to fill that face of yours. It's grander by the day, mate.

I'd say that it's time to change the title of your thread....it's pretty clear that this beard suits you.

Sounds like your doubts & negativity towards your beard is at an end & quite rightly so!
It's got great coverage & asymmetry & well on it's way to the point where you'll wonder what all the fuss was about!
Looking good.

I second the Kent combs! I've lost mine a couple of times and panicked but tit turned up. I'd say balm and combing regularly to get it started training to be straight. I'm 43 and about the same length as you but I've lightly trimmed it several times. I think it suits you well. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the kind words.
Now it's got a bit more length I'm actually enjoying having a wave in it....once it's been tamed 😀
I wouldn't be without my Kent comb now....it sorts it out, along with wax and oil 😀
