Your mustache is great as is, let it grow and don't worry about trying to shape it.  Your mustache is turning into the crown of your beard.

Week 9 update:

Seeing growth and all this week I have been getting complements about how 1) I'm not immediately recognizable. 2) it looks good. 3) it suits me.

This week my attitude is better. I started taking photos from different angles to see what other people see (since I only see front and sides) and it changes my perspective.

I'm also seeing darkening happening all over and my cheek line is darkening slowly daily with visible growth.

Close up I have lots of vellous hairs so in the future whenever those hairs mature I'll have my ultimate dream beard.

I think it'll take more than 13 weeks for what I'm looking for but my beard is a keeper for life. I saw my post shave photo the day before I started my journey with a bald face... wow. Haha.

Thank for your support last week. It was rough.

Until next week.

It is looking good, and that dark color is working to your advantage.  Try posting some photos from a further distance to see how others see you.

This is my first time on your thread.  It's nice to see guys grow a beard that they're happy with and come to the realisation that they will keep it for life.  You definitely should - this is alreay a nice looking beard and you're only at week 9.

Week 10 update.

So I have good and bad beard days.

My coworker started two weeks after me but has surpassed me when he reached his week 3 with a full thick dense beard... bastard. Haha.

I keep reminding myself about patience. This took 10 weeks. My cheeks just started growing in two weeks ago. When I want to lop it off I remember the deep regret when I buzz it off three years ago.

I put a tape measure to my beard to see what length I'm at and my side burn area is at 1" and my chin is at like 5/8". So it'll take around another 2/3 months like I assumed last week to reach my goal of 2-2.5".

I'll add photos of the cheek growth as well. It's the weak cheeks that are causing most of the doubt. The hair is less coarse so I hope they will eventually thicken since I never let it grow for this long.

I don't have anything in my beard at the time of the pics but here they are.

Hi there.. great update 👍

Your beard is really coming into its own..

If I were you I would give the cheeks another 6 or 7 weeks to really reach their potential.

Looks great already but can really see how that extra time over and above the 13 weeks would really bring it together and give you the beard you are after.

I am at 10 weeks also, and whilst I am delighted with my growth considering what I started with (rather sparse cheeks) I have reassessed and looking at the bigger picture, ie achieving a beard I want to keep and be fully happy with...

Just my two pence worth ..

Grow on 👍

It is still improving with each update.  And yes, we all know one of those guys that can grow a thick and full beard in 3 week.  But they usually do not even appreciate it because it is so easy for them.

Thanks guys.

Yeah that's true (for both replies).

I'm in this for the long haul and overall I'm sure all the hairs will mature somewhat since it's filled in way more if I compared week 4 2015 vs week 4 2017.

When I see unshaven photos of myself it seems shameful. Haha. So I know that barefaced isn't for me.

Thanks for the continued support!

Tomorrow is 14 weeks already and I think my updates are done.

I did some trimming again at the 12.5 week mark, took a tiny amount off my neck line to give it a bit of shape (literally maybe 30-40 hairs total) and to me it changed how it looks.

I had a hard time finding a beard trim style because my cheeks are weak and I don't have a strong goatee area either.

So I settled for shorter side burn area to reduce the puffy look and kinda match the 3.5 week new cheek growth and then made everything else 3/4", and I took my moustache down a little.

My plan is to go for length now under the chin and moustache.

Thanks for all the support since it stopped me from taking it all off.

There is no need for you to stop posting updates now!

I can move your thread over to Short Beards and you can continue cultivating your beard and sharing your progress there :)

How does that sound?
Stop trimming your moustache; greater glory awaits...
but if you are going to trim, do it right, go pencil...
then, of course, a nice copstache can be cool too...

Well I figured I'd try just for men beard dye to darken it up and take away the multi toned hair.

Ended up with an allergic reaction.

Redness, swelling and spreading hives.

I used it before with no issues but this time I had a reaction.

I guess don't mess with a good thing.

Welcome to established fella.
Sorry to read of your allergic reaction, hope it clears up soon.
Nice strong growth for 14 weeks.
Have you any plans for it's future style/length in mind?
One method could be the trim/grow way of putting on length/bulk at the same time keeping it compact & neat, trim a bit, grow a bit more!
Looking good at present.
