Necklines are difficult to judge when looking straight on at a mirror, and it disappears when we lean our heads back. A profile photo will normally show it best. I suggest you err on the side of too low rather than too high. Your stubble shows you have some significant growth below your neckline, and that extra growth will add volume as your beard gains length.

Okay guys...here's an update!

Few things. I ever so slightly trimmed the sideburns and stache, just to keep everything to a similar length as I grow. They are by far the fastest growing areas of my beard (except my neck) and it was starting to look like they were deliberately longer than the rest . I didn't really lose much at all in terms of length but it just gives my beard a more uniformed and tidy look in my opinion. With the way it's progressing, I don't think I'll have to trim much again if at all because it does feel like it's slowly filling in now (at least to me!). I also lowered the neckline a little (cheers Slybeard) and that won't take long to fully blend in at all because the hairs on my neck grow extremely quickly. In terms of my goal, I'm finally on Season 6 of TWD now and Rick's shaved his beard off! I can't put into words how devastated that made me feel haha. Looks like I'm gonna finish just in time for the new series to hit these shores though so that's good news! Anyway, here are the pics....hope you're all good!

It looks good, but I would suggest leaving the stache alone. Let it grow - it will look great longer.

Hey PMkin. I do plan on growing out the stache but it was already getting out of hand! It grows incredibly fast...won't take long for it to overtake everything again

I'm on Episode 3 of Season 6 now so I'll be ready soon! Really hoping Rick grows his beard back to add to the intimidation factor. He looked like such a badass

Hi guys. Just wanted to check i and let you know the beard is still coming along . These pics are about a week old now but I couldn't find time to upload em and now I'm on holiday so I'm not really able to take any as of right now. Don't feel like much has changed since I last posted but I do realise it's a little less than 2 weeks so I'm not expecting instant miracles! The lower neckline has filled in quite well though and I've let the cheeks grow in a little higher because I feel like I can always trim them back to the style I want once it's properly grown out. Hope you're all well. PS. TWD Episode 7 opener....WOW!

PMkin - It does feel like it's getting a little thicker TWD was brutal! I kinda knew what was going on before the episode aired but I couldn't possibly have imagined the way it went down...we're gonna be in for a good season I feel!

wannahavebeard - Thanks man. I think the colour is probably the best feature cause it's quite a mixture up close

omapaman - I hope you're right dude, thanks for stopping by!

Your beard is sarting to fill out nicely now. You def have the potential there to achieve a Rick Grimes. Looking forward to seeing future updates.

Dude I really think you have amazing potential there. You have great coverage and the density of your moustache is something I'm slightly jealous of. A few more weeks and this thing is going to explode!

I hope you're right! I just get to a stage where I don't particularly like how it grows in but I probably just need to be patient and give it time My moustache feels darker than the rest of my beard it's really strange

I often feel this way. One side of my face behaves itself whilst the other side is like it's maniacal twin. It can look odd and scruffy and as much I want to grow it out, in the past I've always felt it just didn't look or grow right, so shaved it off. Having read through a lot of the stories from the guys here, the more experienced beard growers especially, has made me appreciate that time and patience really is key.

doctorjacoby - Agreed, I think time eventually solves everything if you have the coverage...it's just all about patience and focussing on the end goal

baldbandit - I'll try my man. It's hard to resist analysing it in the mirror though haha. I'm really enjoying the new season of TWD and I think I'm finally recovering from the trauma of the first episode!
