I'm 21 years old guy, trying to grow a beard for the first time. I've been growing it for about 2 weeks and that's the longest I went without shaving. What do you think? Do I have a potential to grow a full beard? Or should I just shave it? Are the hairs terminal or transitional since some of them are lighter than the others or that is just a colour of the beard?

Thanks

Hey Mantas!
For your age you are off to a brilliant start! You seem to have ear to ear coverage , but It's far too early to give you accurate advice. We recommend you grow for at least 13 weeks without trimming, but may take longer for young beards , then you can see the potential.
Hairs will appear darker & denser as they grow and there's a lot of stages to go through.

You may itch for a while and want to rip your face off ! it will become scruffy and unruly later on and you may get negative comments by people during these early stages.
However stay mentally strong and determined, growing a beard isn't as mentally easy as people think but you have the support from us all on the beard here!

Just post weekly updates and we can advise you on your journey.

Good luck

Martin

So I actually went with it and continued growing my beard. I started in September, so it's been about 8 months and a half. Had occasional trims along the way, but for the past couple of months I stopped trimming above the lip, and started growing my mustache out.

So here are the results.

Do you guys think It's time for a trim? I am really hesitant about trimming my beard, it makes me think it will be butchered 😀

I think your curly, wavy beard looks great and I can totally understand your concern about a trim. I would just keep growing, if I were you.
Stop trimming your moustache; greater glory awaits...
but if you are going to trim, do it right, go pencil...
then, of course, a nice copstache can be cool too...

Your beard's shape looks natural and symmetrical; a blessing! If you trim it, don't cut into the waves.

Most neck hairs grow forward and under the chin, as well as downward: see here and there. (thanks to @nsr160 for permission!).
