To streamline the process for new recruits I have eliminated the old style enlistment form. Instead all new enlistments will sign up and submit directly on the forums to not only speed the process up but also hopefully prevent so much administration time being lost to those who sign up but never progress to active status.
What mods do you use? Do I need to install them?
We believe that one of the key strengths of the ARMA series is how the developers embrace the modification community; with this community of modders providing new factions, weapons, vehicles, equipment and even terrains for the ARMA 3 engine. Because of this and the added realism generated by the use of several mods we fully embrace the use of mods: operating our own 53rd Mod collection available through the Play With Six network as a one click collection.
Do you accept trial apps?
After being accepted into the 53rd you will be in a short probationary period. This is to ensure you are a good fit for the unit and that we are what you are looking for. If you decide to leave after playing your first mission with us we won't have a problem with that. However, we invest a lot of time and effort into getting our new recruits mission ready so please consider carefully before joining whether the 53rd looks right for you.
I posted an application but I no longer wish to join, what do I do?
If you change your mind after applying (it happens) please post in your application stating you no longer wish to join so we can take your name off the list and process other apps in a timely manner.
Why am I on a waiting list?
The 2nd Battalion 53rd Air Infantry values quality over quantity and we have a maximum number of new recruits to established members that we can comfortably hold at any one time. If we reach the limit or get a sudden influx of new applications, we may put recruitment on hold. You may still apply but it could take a little longer to process our application. Remember: we all have lives/families/jobs outside of the 53rd and as such real life may prevent a rapid processing of your application - however most applications will be reviewed and processed with 24hours.
I may have to go away for an extended period (4 weeks or more) is this going to be a problem?
This is generally not a problem as long as you let us know in advance. If you are absent from the 53rd for more than 4 weeks you will be put into the Reserves. If we hear nothing further from you we will place you as AWOL where future return to the unit will be reviewed on individual basis.
When and where does the 53rd operate?
Official missions are conducted every Tuesday and Sunday at 20:00 London Time. We aim to meet up approximately 15 minutes before missions are due to start to ensure that any mod updates are downloaded and working so that we can have a prompt start to the missions. During missions one of our members will host the mission with a password protected server, with communications going through the members only areas of our Teamspeak 3 channel. Most other evenings we can be found on our Public Server, or additional training activities. During public sessions we are normally found in the publicly accessible areas of our Teamspeak channel.
Is the 53rd a 'Mil-sim' group?
We enjoy the realism aspects of tactical combat operations and as such have a rank and award structure to recognise individual progress. We operate a meritocracy that concentrates on teamwork, dedication, training and communication. We are a Battalion based upon teamwork, however there is also discipline, to us this doesn't mean calling one another by virtual ranks or having members try their best Gunnery Sergeant Hartman impression on new recruits - to us discipline means to be organized, to do things correctly, and to achieve unit cohesion. So really, the short answer is: yes we are a 'Mil-sim' group, however we are not a 'hardcore Mil-sim' group like many others in the ARMA community.
Why NATO-COOP rather than Opfor or a PMC group?
The 2nd Battalion 53rd Air Infantry is a fictional, non-national Battalion that operates as part of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisations Coalition Organised Operations Partnership or NATO-COOP for short. This means that whilst we are not tied to an individual nation we do primarily play as part of the Blue Force using weapons, vehicles and other equipment consistent with that alliance; which also reflects the general multinational makeup of the group. We understand that ARMA 3 and the many mods for it offer a huge wealth of options for all forces. Whilst we wish to capitalise upon those options we believe strength lays in having a clear group identity and structure to ensure that everyone is capable of fulfilling their role as part of the team. With teamwork being one of our primary motivators having roles which compliment and rely upon each other ensures that everyone feels that they are an important and essential part of the team rather than another Rambo amongst a PMC army of Rambos.
Do you play PvP?
No. All our literature clearly states that we are a co-op milsim group. PvP games can be arranged for non-mission nights by individuals if they wish but they will not be part of our official operations. Equally we as a unit may perform Objective based TvT missions against other units, however our main focus is as a co-op unit.
Can I join as a Sniper / Gunship Pilot / Jet Pilot / Special Forces Chap?
No. These roles doe not exist in our group. We have a Platoon Marksman role which provides long range fire protection for the Platoon HQ assets, equally we have Helicopter Pilots who provide both transport and close fire support but are support assets for the main infantry components. We do NOT have any Snipers, Gunships or Jets within our unit as we have found these roles to be too unreliable and represent major game balancing issues.
A note to the new sign ups:
We have had several new sign ups on the forums recently. Due to the number of signs up we receive we expect new recruits to post their recruitment thread within 14 days of signing up - many of you have not yet done this. The forum sweep will run towards the end of next week which will remove all inactive sign ups - to ensure that you are not removed, please proceed with your enlistment by posting in the enlistment section of the forum.
