Twin Wheel Handbrake

Anybody know a good guide for adjusting the handbrake on a 2009 35c15 Twin Wheel. Just failed MOT on hand brake efficiency. Guess they need a strip down and see what's what, but from memory I remember they aren't simple on the twin wheel models?

I thought the correct way was to slacken the cable, adjust the shoes, and then adjust the cable?

Do they all have the inbuilt drum and shoes, cos my calipers sure look like they have the handbrake built in??

Looks like I owe you an apology Rosiebear I thought all the twin wheelers had drums and shoes, but it would appear mine has calipers with the handbrake built in, and the only adjustment I can find is indeed the cable balancer under the van.

Well I adjusted it to get the best I could, but still failed by 2%

So I've stripped every thing back, and found that one slide pin on the drivers side is seized solid. Going to order 2 new callipers, because of one crappy slide pin, tried everything I could but it wouldn't shift, I'd rather get it sorted, so ordered the callipers, and I'll worry about the slide pin once it's off so I can possible have a spare set etc.

When you get the new caliper measure the slide pin hole and put a drill bit through the siezed one when you get it off then hone/polish with some wet and dry sandpaper, coat with some lanoline or grease and store in a ziplok sealed plastic bag with a moisture dry crystal bag. Your local computer parts store probably throws dozens of these little drying bags away every day.

Thanks good plan. I was looking at doing a full refurb, and you've answer the main concern I had.

the slide pins can also be removed by mig welding a nut on , the heat soaks through,a ring spanner on nut(weld inside!) turns/frees and hopefully your sorted..Joe
