A short video showing the use of my Telma retarder while in low range on a steep hill. As my retarder is installed on my transfer gearbox PTO, selecting half gear and low range increase its braking torque effect from 350 Nm to 1357 Nm! The retarder is great for normal driving but in low range it is something else….. ?

Hi Marcus, I have been looking at these for a while. What do you think of fitting a second hand one from a Merc ambulance to my 40-10? The new ones are prohibitively expensive. Something like this.

Should work ok.  It's basically a bunch of electro magnets controlled by some relays.  So basically little to go wrong.  Check the centre bearing though.

Thanks Marcus, I will try to find out sizes and model number and see if it will fit. I do like your idea of using the power take off to keep it up out of the way. Problem is I have no power take off fitted! Anyway I will let you know if I decide to try and fit one.

Regards Graeme
