(I got this idea from assorted threads on the NaNo forums. You can stick your characters here and basically aimlessly roleplay. :D )

You enter a large, arch-ceiling-ed room. There's a bar in one corner with alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks, along with some food. Walnuts abound. Several chairs are scattered across the room.

There is a door that leads out to a patio, but some gosh-darn bats have taken up residence out there and tend to pester anyone who leaves.

There's a sign on the entrance door: "ALL CHARACTERS WELCOME! COME AND RELAX!"

Wendell O'Muir, Gilliam, and Lilith stroll purposefully into the room. The first young man is dressed in a Victorian business suit, an outlandish and irreverent purple color. His white-blond hair is slicked back, milky face puckered and stuck out to face the worst of the world. The second boy is a year younger or so, dark-haired, dressed in weatherstained bags and filthy bare feet. The girl is blond, moderately dressed in blue, and has a bleary animal look about her.
They go over to the bar and order three drinks, talking quietly among themselves.

Captain Gray sat in the far corner of the room, leaning against the wall, eyelids half closed. The violent opening of the door interrupted his absent gazing. Through the threshold stormed a small woman. Chairs were scattered, and glasses broken before she reached the bar. She pushed past a group of drinkers, snatched a bottle off the bar, and took a long chug, red liquid trickling down her chin. Gray opened his eyes as she slammed the bottle onto the bar and turned, chest heaving and mouth dripping with wine. She stared straight at him with wild green eyes, which flashed from behind the curled locks of her long, mahogany hair. Her body was delicately reclined against the bar. A white dress clung to her skin, which was honey coloured under low lights. Gray drew a sharp breath as she pushed herself up, and began to walk towards him. She was smirking, one hand on her swaying hip, which, coupled with the alcohol, made his heart race.

Jason sat quietly in the back, watching the new events unfold. Things could get out of hand in a bar like this, and it was his job to make sure they didn't.

A giant bug walked in, ordering the biggest mug of fruit juice and sugar water they had. Gulping them down, he sat near Jason. "Nice boots," he buzzed, staring at Jason's feet.

His eyes narrowed in the strongest case of deja vu he has ever had. "Do I know you?"

LOL JASON!! How wonderful :D haha
@ Laura-wow, you are one good writer!!

Wendell O'Muir glanced sidelong at the man and the woman who seemed in the midst of a rather interesting conversation. He nudged Gilliam, who took one look at the besotted expression on the man's face and laughed so hard he snorted snot into his beer. Lilith wandered away, unimpressed by the boys' antics, toward the young man who sat alone in the corner beside a buglike creature.
"Excuse me," she said lightly, her voice airy and innocent. She pointed to the buglike creature while speaking to the sandy-haired cavalier. "Is it a boy or a girl?" she asked.

“No wife, sir?” She took a seat opposite him, pulling her legs up onto a spare chair. Gray stared at the graceful fluidity of her body as she lounged on the chair. He looked up to her face, which was clean of wine but pulled into a smirk.

“No,” he said, feeling her gaze searing through him as he made eye contact, “I’m not married.”

“Ridiculous.” She muttered, picking at the bowl of grapes in the middle of the table. Gray bit his tongue as she tossed one into her mouth, and looked away. From the corner of his eye, he could see her look back at him, her stare soul-searching and intense. Heat flushed his cheeks as she slid another grape into her mouth. He looked back up at her. He could feel his face burning as she arched an eyebrow, and leaned forward onto her elbow.

“It’s hot in here,” she started, exhaling loudly, “And I bet you’d look even better without that shirt on.”

“Don’t be silly.” He laughed, looking down with a grimace. The white lines that were slashed across his body were visible as he looked down. Gray prayed her eyes could only see as far; his cheeks darkened further at the thought of them roving over his damaged body.

“You’re probably as tasty as that dude over there.” She tilted her head to nearby table, at which a large bug sat, slurping water from a small mug. His companion curled his upper lip as water splashed onto the table, and turned to a young blonde girl who waited nearby.

Gray felt his eyes drawn back to the woman in front of him, who had almost demolished the entire fruit bowl. She was watching him, her smirk replaced with a full-cheeked smile.

“Have you ever tried roasted crickets? Delicious.”

"No, no, no, you don't go dashing off over a dune when you have an injured companion! That arrow hurt!" Dao said as he shoved open the door and came inside. Sixteen (where does the time go?), blond, green-eyed and six feet tall, he was a complete contrast to the black-haired, dark-blue-eyed eighteen-year-old who followed him. They were both dressed in tunics, though Dao seemed to favor cream and green clothing and Matt preferred black. (To look dramatic, no doubt.)

"You had two mages and your best friend with you. Someone needed to scout," Matt argued.

"Your brother could have done that! You-" Dao stopped, noticing the people scattered across the room.

"Why Luke? He can't run as fast as I can and we were in a deathtrap-" Matt also stopped talking, looking around with curiosity.

Dao cocked his head toward Jason and smiled. "You look familiar. Have I threatened you before?" he said good-naturedly.
