So got this one from the attic for a 'Golden Age of Airfix' Group Build - basically anything in their catalogue up until 1980.

I always liked the angular lines, twin engines and big gun of the Hs-129; a 1940s A-10 if you will.....just not as successful :D

So what's in the box? Well, not a lot of plastic but plenty of nostalgia. The decals are kaput so spares box for those.

I know some of you are thinking - does he own or build any kits post-1977? Yes, I do! I like the simple life sometimes though......and having low or no expectations of a kit when I start it makes the build more relaxing for me..

Enjoy your modelling, more pics later.

Cheers,
Dermot

Hi Dermot,
Nice choice. I remember building one of these way back....................I think I got the glue from Adam, swapped him an apple for it!!
Always reminds me of the German version of the Beaufighter, just not as good. :adolf:
Looking forward to seeing this one mature. :>
Cheers

I've always loved the Henschel, I've definitely built that one more than once in the past, will be watching this one.

Some more done.....internal ribs for the u/c bays which won't really be seen when it's finished.

So time to talk big guns!
The glorious Airfix box art has a pair of Henschel's over some battlefield, most likely Eastern Front, going all 'Brrrrrt' on a Russian Convoy in true 1970's comic book style...

The B-3 model had the 75mm cannon and there's a picture of it on this page. Problem is, the way Airfix has the barrel moulded, it just looks way too long. After a short while on the Inter-web searching, I found this image and line drawing of the gun and loading mechanism.

Using the trusty Mk1 eyeball and shaky camera technique, I offered up the gun and mounting to the drawing....Hmmm........looks a bit long

But shortening the barrel by a few mm, I think that looks much better

Thanks for looking,
