Nothing like a bluebird day on our all-time favorite local mountain.

The dreaded inversion is back

The long shadows of December

Can't call this a wasted day of my life

Thanks for the report, Bob.

The Foothills have decent snow too, so I've been keeping it local. It's rare to have such good snow and driving conditions on the road above my house.

I've done some nice tours on the trails:

Got the kids out too for some sage and surface hoar skiing. "They look like Christmas trees!" the kids say of the hoars:

I am guessing the snow will remain through this long inversion.

Wha? No wheels?

After seeing your excellent use of the term, I think "ick" should become a standard usage in meteorology.

Good run, Erik.

You must have reached the summit just before me, as my tracks are not seen in your pics. I approached from Rocky Canyon.

The surface hoar was beautiful.

The fog dissolved around me at one point, leaving frost on the trees and brush in brilliant sun.

Only got in a few turns, but a fun tour nevertheless.

Snow's getting thin on the Nordic Highway, at least at the start. Note the tracks set into mud:

Still fun skiing though and great to get out of the murkiness:

Obviously, we need snow, badly.

Agreed Jim, went for a run at 6k' deeper in the Boise Mountains this morning and it's almost bare:
