On Ships in the US Civil War, would they have used mops to clean the decks?

Working on a diorama idea.

Sailors swab the deck with a swab! Mops and swabs have been around for many years (centuries), so I would say yes. A sailor's bell bottoms were made so they could easily be rolled up and not get wet when swabbing the deck.

One more reason that trouser legs need to roll up easily.

wash away the debris, then mops to remove the excess water.
Is that a yes or a no?

One of the many names for sailors is "Swabbies".

Dining rooms
Breakfast, lunch, or dinner

They do have, hatches in the deck, doors in the bulkhead and ladders to get you from one deck to another. You may have to swab the head (mop the bathroom for the uninitiated). They cook the chow in the galley and you eat on the mess deck. Possibly this why sailors are so uncivilized.

The handle is inserted in a socket on the upper surface of the stone. The end of the handle is tucked under the arm. Grab the wrist with the opposite hand and sway back & forth. A group of sailors could cover a wider area faster on their feet than on their knees.
