the famous photo has been switched and reversed many times in print and film.

Does anyone know from where the photo was taken? On Ford Island? Near the visitor center?

I was there just a month ago and forgot to research that.

thx - Craig

The images SHOULD show the explosion going to the right. Unfortunately, most show it going to the left.

Here's a link with the details:http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/even ... /ph-az.htm

Look, when a vastly superior alien culture comes all this way to take over your world, certain basic laws of planetary conquest apply. For example, when someone points a Quad Vectored Hypo Thermic Cosmo Blaster at you, it's a fair bet you are about to become toast. And in your case, a whole loaf of toast!

that the movie was supposedly made by a Navy doctor; I would think he would have had more pressing duties either caring for wounded, or preparing to do that, rather than making a home movie (however historically significant they turned out to be).

Does anyone know more about that aspect?

didn't the Arizona go up just a few minutes into the attack?

possibly the realization as to the size of the attack had not quite set in.
