undercoat them so that paint will permanently stick to them? I've lots that I wish to add to 1/72-scale dios.

Buy the newer ones that come in harder, gluable plastic.

Italeri for example is going with a much better plastic than the old rubbery Airfix stuff.

Otherwise, a good washing, priming, and good, solid base coat are your best bets for a good finish.

You can't handle the figures heavily, especially things like guns, as the paint will flake off.

Mr Surfacer 1000? Future? Tamiya (acrylic) light grey? An Enamel paint?
How did you know that I was speaking about the Airfix figures? You are correct - groundcrew figures etc.

Something like Floquil Figure Primer, Games Workshop primer, Tamiya spray primer, etc.
