Back when I was heavily involved with all things Miata, I used to organize performance driving schools for our club. I'd contract with a pro-school, and we would have the entire staff work with us all weekend. A lot of fun, and a LOT of track time. We were very careful to make sure it was always called a "driving school" for insurance reasons. Most insurance companies will cover an accident if it happened during such a scheme. Most, not all...

We had one guy show up to one of the events that thought himself a real hot-shot, and made little use of the instructors, just running laps when he could. He proceeded to ignore a significant warning about what to do if you slide off the track, lost control and stuffed his car into a drainage ditch which was so far from the actual racing run-off area that it proved his total lack of competence. He decides to have the car towed off the premises and on to a nearby road, then claimed to his insurance company that it was crashed there. I should add that he showed up at the track the next day with a brand new Miata he bought the evening before!! His wrecked car wasnt even cold yet!! Found out later that someone he had pissed off for some reason (he was a real a$$hole and made a lot of enemies) called the insurance company and told them the truth (he had photos of the crash on the track!). Last anyone heard of him, he was being sued.
