I also like, the "quick build" nature of the review, done without any paint, filler, or sanding. Very valuable to me, much more so than the usual build review. Most any good modeler can make a silk purse from a sows ear, but this review clearly shows that the Tamiya IL-2 is definitely a silk purse to start with from a build aspect!

When Tamiya announced this kit I thought "No need for it" I'm not really interested in the Il-2, and I already have AM's very nice kit.

But after seeing Brett's construction feature I'm not so sure I don't want one !!

Same with the Tamiya Swordfish : not really interested. But after having seen the quality of the kit I bought both the wheeled and floatplane versions !!

Oh well...

Thanks for the quick review Brett. Now the choice is clear: Do I engage in a course of self-flagellation and build the AM kit or do I buy the Tamiya kit? Hmmmm. . .

I think I will wait for the Tamiya kit to hit the shelves in the U.S. of A.

I really like the build without paint review. We really get a chance to see how well the kit fits. I would like to see more reviews like this.

I think your review just sold a few more kits for Tamiya... "Hello Squadron"

Tamiya quality all the way.

There is no such thing as an unbuildable kit, just some kits one may consider not worth building.

Ive realized that most people ... tend not to be direct when they feel something is shoddy because they want to be liked, "which is actually a vain trait".

This sort of out-of-the-box no-frills build is incredibly useful. Do this for all incoming kits.

on which to focus Tamiya's considerable 48th talents.

If I had his ear, I'd have whispered (as loudly as poss) Ginga/Frances. And under 4000 Yen please.
