Hi all,

The production version of Tamiya's 1/48 scale Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6 arrived here yesterday, so I have taken the opportunity to write up a detailed in-box review with 52 images of the kit's plastic vinyl and metal parts, decals, masks, marking schemes and box top.

You can find it via the What's New page or by following this link:

Enjoy!

Bye for now,

Brett

You sound really excited about this kit.

I wonder if Tamiya will do more kits in this style: Intense engine detail, removable cowlings. Maybe re-do some existing 1/48 subjects such as Spitfire, Zero, Corsair, etc.

You now have 2 of these beauties to build and evaluate, and we have a big goose egg or 0! Thanks for the review. Can't wait to see pictures of the finished build. Hopefully we see this one in the states soon. And hopefully Tamiya America won't mark it up much. If your price of 3700 yen is correct, this kit might actually have a MSRP under $40. Woooo Hooooo!

Hi Brett,

Would you say that the surface detail of the 109 matches or exceeds that of their new Ki-61 Hien kit?

Thanks
Brad

Hi Brad,

I'd say the surface textures on the Bf 109 match the Ki-61. There is a bit more going on, texture wise, on the Ki-61, especially the wings, but the approach to surface texture in general looks very similar.

Bye for now,

Brett
