And heck ... once again half the price of the Tamiya model that hitted the local store here for sixty five euros! (Almost 80 dollars!!!)

BTW - is it me, or did Academy finally learn how to market their products? These latest boxes are stunning!

Good old AM plastic.
And yes, just like Italeri, Academy is perfecting the art of selling crappy kits for premium prices.
Rather disappointed.

...even has Accurate's name and logo on the box.

They were planning to re-release the IL-2m3, but the Tamiya kit caused them to change to the early Il-2 with skis.

Academy will be re-releasing Accurate Miniatures kits on a fairly regular basis now, since MRC now owns the name and trademark.

"plastic parts made by Accurate Miniatures"

And frankly, I think it is not crappy at all. Difficult to build but frankly good!

What's storming my mind is the asked 36$ when around here the new Tamiya arrived at $80!!!

Or that a bunch of their original moldings are crap but not their reboxings like this AM?

I think AM's 15-20 yr old kit is 80 if not 90% of the just released Tamiya kit. For a lot less too, esp on eBay, now that the new Tam is on the mkt.

Nuno, i'm as calm as one can be. I have built original AM kit few years back and i have one in stash so i will not be buying Tamiya one.
But at least Tamiya has brass balls to invest time and money to produce state of the art kit wile Academy is serving us old and outdated kits in pretty new boxes.
To each his own i guess.
I for once will be more than happy to fork out $80.00 for new Tamiya P-38 instead of $35.00 or so for Academy one.
Remember, YOLO....
Peace,
Cezar.

I agree, I think Academy has some kick-*** box art now.

And I like that they are re-popping old AM kits. I hope they do the B-25 series; seen how much some of them go for on Ebay?

And a few years back, the produced some terrific, state-of-the-art helos, the CH-46 series and the CH-53. I'd say they ARE investing time and money to produce new kits....
