I understand that the first 20 or so A-7D´s were delivered with the Navy type of in-flight refueling probe, what became of these aircraft? Were they rebuilt to the same standard as the later aircrafts, were they used in combat? Can I use the Hasegawa 1/48 A-7E to build one of these aircraft, what changes beside the nosegear would I have to do?

These early aircraft were all used stateside for training without being issued to operational units.

Tank: So what do you need? Besides a miracle.
Neo: Guns. Lots of guns.

The early ones with the probe didn't go into combat in Vietnam, but they were most assuredly with an operational AF Tactical Fighter Wing.
