The deck appears to be smooth. If it is, how would one rough it up to resemble the real thing.

I wonder how much texture there would be in 1/48 scale? Maybe airburshing Testors Dullcote at high pressure would result in a reasonable appearance?

It looks like the deck surface is styrene, unlike their basic modern carrier deck base, which is printed cardboard on a styrene frame/base. If it is styrene, there shouldn't be much trouble in texturing it. There are texture paints out there that armor modelers use for non-skid applications. You could also try Mr. Surfacer, and as it dries, poke a stiff, OLD paint brush into it to draw it up some as texture. And a final thought is to coat it with liquid cement and do the same thing.

Or, if you're not tied to having the catapult and blast deflector, I'm planning on doing a resin modern deck base, with recessed holes and etch tie downs. It will be textured. I will probably make the texture over scale for those who want a little extra definition (scale texturing would be hard to discern at that scale), and it can be knocked down with either sanding or applications of Mr. Surfacer. I'm not sure when I'll have it out, but I'm thinking it will likely be early next year.

1/35th scale modellers add texture(non-skid) to their armor kits all the time. It is noticeable.
