I was wondering if it might be fun to have a small group build were we all use the same kit. (all the P-40s being built now is what made me think of it)

For diverse markings we could pick something like the AT-6 (aka,T-G,SNJ,Texan or Harvard) but it could be any easy to get or likely to have Airfix kit.

Does anyone like the idea? (No worries if you don't, it's just a thought)

I just ran one on uamf.org.uk for the Fw 190D.http://uamf.org.uk/viewforum.php?f=192

There was also one for the HP Hampden:http://uamf.org.uk/viewforum.php?f=191B and Angel Interceptor:http://uamf.org.uk/viewforum.php?f=190 These are just a sample from the past month.

There is more benefit, IMHO in running an SKGB on the older kits, which may have one or a few quirks, than the new-tool Zero or P-40. With a SKGB, you are all building the kit, and so you come up against the same issues, and different folks seem to either lead the way with a solution or else everyone solves it their own way that suits themselves, so at the end of the GB you have a great resource for people who want to build that kit in the future.

But yes, the P-40B looks a nice kit. I would have more interest in the P-40E, which has a few of those 'quirks' I mentioned (e.g. lack of cockpit detail!)

That's a really good idea Greg. There are plenty of Airfix kits with a wide range of markings. Off the top of my head:

Mosquito
Mustang
Me 109
Spitfire V or IX
Boeing 737
Harvard/Texan

I'd be in it for sure.

a Heller 43-scale Landrover series III,
a 72-scale (Dragon?) Me.1101,
a 6" robot kit,
the KP 72-scale Spitfire Mk.IX LF, and lately,
the Tamiya 48-scale Komatsu bulldozer.
Good fun. George, out.............

I'm currently in an F-14 Tomcat STGB (Single Type Group Build) over on Britmodeller.

Obviously we're not limited to Airfix kits but you can imagine there's a huge range of schemes and variants involved and 'What-if' options are also allowed..

Would love to see this get off the ground here too.

Cheers,

For it to work for me it would have to be a kit that's reasonably available. I can't get most older out-of-production kits here. Also, it would be very nice if a choice could be made in the next two weeks, as I'll be in Hong Kong (a.k.a. The Land of Hobby Shops) around Chinese New Year and can pick up the appropriate box of styrene then.

Swell idea--thanks!
