I always assumed they were antennas.  I fashioned some from Evergreen styrene rod for the Hasegawa 1:48 ACMI pod in 2008.  The model was the 56th Fighter Wing commander's aircraft.  I presented the model to BGen Tom Jones Jones just days before his departure for his next duty station.

Here are a couple of shots of the prototype

Speaking of "ACMI" pods, does anybody know if the following one is available in 1/48 scale?

Hi Larry. I believe the linked photo shows a Cubic AIS pod. There's a helpful thread at zone5:

There's a photo there of the pod you're looking for in some scale (not indicated) except it has the three ballast belts, which weren't/aren't used with the F-16.

There don't seem to be any 1/48 renditions currently available although there are any number to be found without the wire antennas. The bodies are all similar enough that you might be able to scratchbuild and install the antennas on one of them.

Thanks, I had found that thread with a Google search for ACMI.
I can probably "guesstimate" the dimension of the pod.
Since I plan to put it on my 1/48 TAV-8S Harrier, I will probably need the ballast weights.

From what I've read, the basic dimensions of the various pods are so similar that they're just about interchangeable.
