I have of course also posted this request in The Jet Age forum.

The B-45C tail-gun arrangement is quite different to the B-45A's, but both seem surprisingly hard to find god clear photos or drawings of them.

Any help posting picture here, or emailing to me at mark_davies(at)orcon(dot)net(dot)nz will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Mark

Need to scan for you...
The turret was the same for RB-45C and B-45A's because they stole the turrets from the A's to put on the RB-45C's.

Do not know why Valom didn't do the turret... Hardest part is the turret had a "fishbowl window"

I do have one email inbound to you from my work email addy with a pic.

Regards
Scotty B

So difficult to get some shots, but you may find these useful.

The B-45A and C, here's what I have for C's:

And here's what looks like an A with a C turret.

I have found plenty of photos of the B-45C with no guns and the gun-mount faired in, but none with guns installed in the movable mounting.

Thanks Bob, but unfortunately the gun-mount is faired over on that one.

the B-45 where they talk about the fact that all RB-45C's were delivered with "no" tail turret..

Then the Korean war happened and the RB-45's got a nasty surprise, the MiG-15 were diving "Down" on them which at the time the RB's were the highest flying birds... So a call was made to remove the tail turrets from active B-45A's from USAFE, and CONUS birds and ship them to RB-45C units..

The only difference I have seen is some have the "fishbowl" at the aft end of the gunners glass, and some have the regular flat glass like your pic above..

Another interesting note is that later B-45A's got the bomb/nav glass covered over with solid sheet metal.. Valom calls it a plain B-45C kit but A's also got the covers... And since many of the A's had the turrets removed they got the pointy tail cone.

I still need to scan the other stuff I have... If Steve Giner ever comes out with his B-45 book that would be awesome as well.

thing that puzzles me is that the RB-45C manual specifically includes a turret, and its layout is different to the B-45A. Here are various turret and tail forms I've found:

The original B-45A Turret with Short Barbette & Fish-boll Canopy:

The B/RB-45C Turret with Long Barbette & Sloped Canopy:

The Sloped Canopy & Faired-in Long Barbett

Then there are anomalies like this RB-45C with Short Barbette & Sloped Canopy:

and B-45A with Long Barbette & Sloped Canopy:

Then there is the faired over Long Barbette & faired over Sloped Canopy:

and the faired over Long Barbette & Sloped Canopy:

I have also found plans of the Long Barbette & Sloped Canopy with protruding radar sighting mechanism, but no photos of this:
