Aloha All,
The Hawaii Undersea Research Lab (HURL) is the sole civilian submersible capability left in the Pacific. They are the only active source for help to locate the missing US and Japanese aircraft from the Pearl Harbor Attack. Their "test and trial" dives solved the two missing Japanese midget submarine mystery from that day. There is no one else to assist closure for the families of the airmen still sitting in their cockpits from that "Day of Infamy".
Please help the petition and make your vote count.
Cheers,
David Aiken, a Director: Pearl Harbor History Associates, Inchttp://www.pearlharbor-history.org/

This is going out to all our friends in Maritime Heritage.
In case you haven't heard, NOAA has zeroed out our budget starting Oct 1. If we are not reinstated our submersible program will be likely shut down. This program has been operating for 30 years doing science, research, and exploration from Midway to New Zealand.....not to mention our discoveries and contributions to Maritime Heritage, which were not really a part of our mission, but we were able to conduct via our "test and trial" dives.
Please support us by joining the petition linked below before March 27th Senate Hearing. Lets keep the only remaining manned deep submergence assets in Central and Western Pacific funded and operational. Forwarding to friend, family, and collegues, along with any personal commentary would be appreciated.

Good luck!

While the cause might be worthy...your statement that HURL is the only "civilian" submersible capability in the US is wide of the mark. Woods Hole in Massachusetts has manned submersibles, remember Alvin? Not to mention an impressive collection of unmanned ROVs. Scripps in San Diego also has significant submersible capability. That isn't even touching the extensive submersible, primarily unmanned, capabilities of the private sector (oil and gas particularly).

While HURL may have been helpful in your specific area of endeavor...there is nothing that says that there aren't resources available from other sources that wouldn't also accomplish the mission.
