the arresting hook is apparently too short,and fitting a longer one will compromise the "stealth" characteristics.
The F-35 program is starting to smell like another F-22, a good idea compromised by too much political interference from capitol hill.

Can you elaborate on what political interference exactly has compromised the idea of the F-35 (besides of course, spending $60 billion or so on it already)? That the F-35 is turning out to be an overpriced turd couldn't possibly be the fault of Lockheed-Martin and the Pentagon, could it?

Not sure why people say it's ugly, I think it's a great looking plane, maybe not elegant but certainly purposeful looking.
