I've searched around and I can't find a clear answer on what size the roundels (fuselage and upper wing) should be for a Burma Beaufighter. I'm thinking specifically of the Mk VIs X's in the DG+DE over MSG scheme with the white ID stripes. I think they should be 24", but I'd like some clarification.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Lee G.

You are correct, 24 inches. A.F.O. (India /357/42), April 1944 specifies medium size for Beaufighters as in Air Mail 95/5/AIR, 4 July 1943.

And I'm sure those roundels were all 24 inches within a very small fraction.

Had it been an AAF line crew painting the roundels/insignia I suspect it would have gone more like this:

"Hey Chief, how big are these wing insignias supposed to be?"

"The book say 36 inches, but the pilot wants them way bigger, so make 'em about 48...."

"Got it."

And then we get to colors....
