I decided to enter a model show hosted by Hobbytown USA in October of this year. On a fluke, I chose a 1/16 scale Warriors figure of a US Marine, Korea, 1950 as one of my entries. As I was removing it from my display cabinet, the figure came off of the base and I had enough trouble re-attaching it I almost left it home. After the judging was completed, I found that the figure was awarded the Best of Show placque which was a great surprise to me. I asked one of the judges why the figure was chosen. She said that the judges looked at all of the model entries but they just kept coming back to the figure. They felt that the figure just told a story. I had entered this figure in some Utah IPMS shows and received no awards at all. Go figure, huh!

is your figure in that very temporary camo pattern that confused the GI's with Germans?

Actually it is my feeble attempt to replicate the camouflage pattern that the marines used on their helmet covers. What references I had at the time were black/white and fussy so I took my best shot at copying the pattern.

Please capitalize Marine/Marines, failure to do so riles us up!

Man, I wish I'd had this picture when I painted the figure. It would have helped immensly. I'm going to save it for future projects. Thanks to all for your comments.

the camo that the 29th and 30th infantry divisions wore ashore on D-day. And, yes, it DID confuse everybody, axis and allies alike. IIRC, it was pulled back before August of 44.....
