There is an airline near where I grew up and lived. Called Island Airlines. Flew from Port Clinton Ohio to Middle Bas Island in lake Erie. Fourty some miles or so, but at the speed of the Tri Motor, it took a little while.

They oversold the flight (this was someshere arround 1950) so things havent changed much. What is different is that the extra passenger sat in the co-pilot seat. Wasn't any TAS back then.

AFAIK Island Airlines is still there but they havent had Tri Motors in 30 years.

The EAA Tri Motor was in Jax friday through sunday. It spent the first two days at Herlong Field, a small recreational airport on the west side of town. It spent sunday at Craig Airport a GA field on the east side. I spent several hours photographing it with a friend while it was at Herlong. Rides were $80.00 and $120.00 to sit in the copilot's seat. It rockets along at 85-90 MPH. Shot around 250 picts.

and a fool something to stick in his mouth.
