I have a Two Bobs sheet featuring VFA-115 during OIF for my Italeri F/A-18E. I'm wondering about a loadout for this bird. I have one c/l tank, and trying to decide what to hang on the wings. Since this is an old and reasonably inaccurate kit, I don't want to get too complicated with the stores.

I also have the Hasegawa kit, and could use the decals from it to do a VFA-115 CAG bird, or a VFA-27 CAG bird. The main reason that I was leaning towards VFA-115 is that the Abe Lincoln in home ported in Everett, reasonably near where I live (4 hours away).

I bought some "odorless" mineral spirits so that perhaps I can airbrush without offending the landlords, who share a ventilation system with me.

I actually made progress today, instead of studying for tomorrow's midterm.

Have you tried Google by chance? I searched for:

f/a-18e "vfa-115" loadout

And found these interesting threads that might get you started.

Yep, and I did find both those threads. Good info, but I was also looking for opinions...

I don't have an ATFLIR, so the loadout won't be quite accurate anyhow. The kit includes an ASQ-173.

Maybe I can make an ATFLIR from a LANTIRN and a couple GBU-38s from Mk82s.

Oh, duh... I just looked at the decal instructions, and it has a loadout chart on the back.

Not trying to be a smartass but did you do a "Google Image"
search rather than a "Google Web" search? I find that image
searches usually produce better hits when it comes to most
aircraft research

Yes, and what I found is most images are of birds coming aboard, which means no munitions

For VFA-115 in OIF, you don't want an ATFLIR. They only had 3 of them, and didn't fly them over the beach. A normal TFLIR like you find in a standard Hornet kit is what you need, on the left intake station. Also, GBU-38 weren't used by VFA-115 then, either. They flew predominately GBU-31 JDAM, GBU-16 LGB, and MK-83/BSU-85 iron bombs (like those found in the Revell Super Hornet kits). Remember, that was the first FA-18E deployment and the cleared weapons didn't include many of the ones commonly seen on the Super Hornet today.

Thanks Joe. I did find some info on VFA-115, but most of it did not specify timeframe. I think I've settled on:

1 AIM-9M
2
3 GBU-16
4 GUB-16
5 TFLIR
6 Fuel
7 AIM-120
8 Mk83
9 Mk83
10
11 AIM-9M
