As I progress on with my F-15A project, I am still considering alternate markings. This is normal for me right up until I start painting and lock in on a set of markings by nature of the camouflage. With F-15s, that lock-in won't come practically until I start applying the decals ...

Anyway, I was looking at the TwoBobs sheet with the WTC scramble aircraft from the MA ANG. Were the jets marked as the decals provide on the day of the scramble, or were they later dressed up as command aircraft later due to their significance that day? It seems very coincidental that two command-marked F-15s would be the first scramble.

I have some images of the two of them over New York, but it is dated from November of 2001. Lots can change in two months for their markings. Also, TwoBobs says they are MOD-Eagle camouflage, but the images I have look fairly light. Were they MOD-Eagle or Ghost Grays?

They were Mod Eagle...the swap from compass was in '91-'92.

Dunno about the rest...

seems to have a pretty good 'in' with the 102nd when they were flying.

Don't need Ken to confirm anything...F-15Cs are pretty straightforward in terms of camouflage colors.

I think the OP was refering to which tail #'s were scrambled on 9/11. It seemed unusal that the "boss birds" would have been on alert at the same time. I dont know about the other one, but I'm pretty sure that 102 was scrambled as they were/are trying to preserve it at the boneyard for a future exhibit. Nothing to do with the colors.
