The "Great Planes" episode on the Hun mentioned that the type flew more missions than any other type in the war. They didn't define it to combat operations or fixed wing types, but I still find it surprising.. are they correct?

. . . I've seen several episodes and cringed through most of them. It's mostly due to poor writing where statistics are buried in generalities. If you were to combine Air Force, Navy, and Marines, you'd likely find that the F-4 flew the most missions among fixed-wing jets, and I'll bet all are way behind the ubiquitous Huey. But I don't have specifics on how many sorties were flown by every type.

The other day I was watching an episode about the P-40 and how the AVG did with the plane. Talked about intercepting Japanese Bombers and shooting them down. All the footage was German Gun Camera of B-17's being shot up. CRINGE is a good word. And if the "expert narrator" knew what he was talking about, it might be a bit better. And speaking of F-4's, ever notice that when they cover the Phantom in U.S. service, they make it out that the USAF was the primary user. Same with the AD/A-1 Skyraider.

The series is just downright bad. The current "Great PLanes" pales incomparison to the Discovery Channel series "Great Planes" from the late 80's. but even that one had issues.

I started watching this show just recently with the hope that it would be on par with the old "Wings" series that aired on the Discovery channel years ago. Boy, was I disappointed. Cheesy editing & inaccurate footage make it tough to watch.
