Its a real shame that the space program garners so little excitement anymore. The magnitude of the technological achievement is mind bottling...

My son and I watched NASA TV on the internet during the EDL (Entry, Descent, and Landing).

I was just thinking that all those guys in mission control really had nothing to do during EDL. There is a 30 minute lag in radio. 15 minutes for the telemetry message about a possible problem to get from the lander to earth and then 15 minutes for a controller to send a command back to fix it.

I'm pleasantly surprised that the lander made it down OK. The had a very complex landing sequence.

And no one confused pounds with kilograms this time.
