I have been reading the Barrett Tillman "autobiography" and very much enjoying it...

http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-The-F4U-W ... 48&sr=1-19

Can anyone recommend something more scale model oriented? I have been thinking about the Modelers DataFile book particular:

http://www.amazon.com/VOUGHT-F4U-CORSAI ... 30&sr=1-12

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

I bought it during a Trumpeter 1/32 build and it was indispensable:

I was working from a dozen reference books, and if I had to do it over again with only one, that's the one I would use.

Also--t hough I don't have a copy-- a friend tells me the best reference of all, accuracy-wise, is "The Time Capsule Fighter Corsair KD431" by David Morris (ISBN: 07509435X) but an Amazon search suggests that one is pretty rare. And pricey!

I think they are actually the same book, IIRC. The amazon site has a pre-release proposed cover image, or something goofy like that. The other author is a very impressive individual as well. I have chatted with Joe Hegedus quite a bit online about F/A-18 Hornet-related details. He works in the Hornet program in some form or fashion and has always been a very courteous and helpful gentleman in my experience...

Again, thanks for your opinion!

i haven't seen Rafe Morrisey's book yet but people seem to like it.

"KD431- The Time Capsule fighter" by David Morris is an excellent reference. It literally "Cracked the Code" in explaining the nuances between Vought and Goodyear-Built Corsairs. I very good reference.

The Kagero/ AJ Monograph Press book is good althouht their 3 view drawings contain some errors.

The F4U Corsair Walk Around title is OK for detail shots but its based solely on restored aircraft; not a lot of new ground is broken here.

HTH,

david

by Lee Cook. It is the biography of the squadron in the Pacific. Lots of air to air combat stories, and B&W photos, which show wear and tear, weathering, etc.
