No. 1 PRU

According to Paul Lucas Medium Sea Gray, Olive Gray over PRU Blue. Night spinners.

According to Lucas, Olive Grey was described by the RAE as being half way between Dark Sea Grey and Light Slate Grey in hue. The color was prepared specifically for the Air Fighting Development Unit trial.

This was a period of camouflage experimentation.

If it is LY*G/DK310 of No 1 PRU then it is in Sky Grey, Dark Slate Grey and PRU Blue.

But based on my references, LY*U had a larger fuselage roundels, 42 inches vs. 36 inches, so I'd say LY*U.

Hey DJ,

Yep, 'Dad is correct, that's W4051 alright. By the time that photo was taken, her undersides had been repainted in PRU Blue and she was on active ops. Those fuselage roundels were originally the usual four color rings; the outer yellow ring was repainted in Dull Blue and the white ring was redone in Dull Red to match the center dot, resulting in a non-standard sized blue and red roundel. I have some pictures of this one so if you are interested, let me know.

HTH, Jim
