Hi all,

Got the decal canopy frames on, and had my big oops, carefully counted the sections, marked them out on maskling tape so I could line them up, got them on, then started the horizontal frames, and hmmmm, somethings not right, arrgh I missed a section...... so this devastor has one less section in the canopy. I also havn't got all the frames there should be on, it started to look busy enough to me, and I'd had enough.

I did notice the pilot and his seat with rollover frame is too far back, I'm not sure if I made a mistake, but will check when I do another one.

Knocked up a prop shaft and boss for the prop blur, popped on the tail wheel, hook, and torpedo, and added some torpedo holding cables?, I think, not sure if they are right but hey.

A fun build, and look forward to doing a yellow wing one sometime.

Thanks for the comments, great fun.

All the best

Cheers
Jim

The paint looks great, the prop blur is among the best I've seen, and the canopy is fantastic. I guess I really have to try decal strips for canopy framing.

I wonder where I can get the stuff? Is it actual decal film on paper, or is it possible to apply decal-film fluid on scrap decal-paper?

Its nice to see the kit in wartime colors. I think most people do it in Aluminum and yellow.

Is there a particular reason why you fit the bomb racks right alongside the torpedo? The real plane would not (could not?) carry both. The middle fuselage section was different for the bomber and torpedo roles. A cursory look at photos shows no bomb racks fitted with the torpedo.

If you hadn't told me there was a missing frame, I wouldn't have known.

Great job, thanks for posting.

Thanks Luno, I painted clear decal film I had, and cut them into strips.I had a bit of cracking and flaking with these ones. I normally paint them with enamels and havnt had the flaking before.

Allan Buttrick uses a bow pen loaded with paint to draw thin lines on decal film and then cuts them out, so you are not cutting through the paint. I need more practise with a bow pen for it to work well for me, so I cut through paint.

I was following the Airfix instructions, and to be honest didn't pay a lot of attention to photos with the torpedo on.. oops

Here the instructions,

shows those mounts on with the torpedo options, and with the bomb option its between the mounts.

Ah well, something to pay attention to next time.

Thanks for that.

really well done Jim, just right. You can be sure I will be counting those damn frames over and over again on my build !!!
I will use the same paints as on the Foss build, did we ever determine why the torpedoes are those colors?
You should be well pleased with this one, great effort.

Thanks,
Allan

I love Devastators. Yours looks great. I think the torpedo coloring looks cool.

Watch out for the Zeros on your six!
