How sad is it that they (hollywood) have to turn to a 100 year old story for something new and worth watching?

I will also say- a ripping good yarn!!!!h

"The SECURITY GUARDS are fighting back!!!"
"The PEANUT VENDORS are fighting back!!!"

...as to compare it to "Ishtar".

From MSN Entertainment:

"Despite a domestic box office take that was far lower than expectations, John Carter opened very strong in the rest of the world. In Russia, for example, the film had the highest opening day in that country's history."

It certainly won't be as successful as "Avatar". But I don't think it will be "Heavens Gate" either.

Respectfully submitted,
Jim Roberts

Really? You're comparing John Carter to Ishtar?

Not even close.

Ishtar was complete and utter dreck. Right up there with Glitter and Gigli...

John Carter is nothing like that.

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/03/12/busin ... -mars.html

"John Carter, which cost an estimated $350 million to make and market, and was directed by Mr. Stanton, took in about $30.6 million at the North American box office, according to Rentrak, which compiles box-office data. That result is so poor that analysts estimate that Disney will be forced to take a quarterly write-down of $100 million to $165 million. The amount will depend on ticket sales overseas, where John Carter took in about $71 million over the weekend, a better total than Disney had feared.

Profitability for John Carter was always a steep climb. Because of its enormous cost and the way ticket sales are split with theaters, analysts say the film needs to take in more than $600 million globally to break even. The only silver lining for Disney may be a dubious one: last March the studios Mars Needs Moms flopped so badly that it also required a write-down, making year-on-year performance comparisons less brutal."

I'll see it when it hits the cheap theater or DVD.

Have you ever looked into the herbal food supplements?

No only no shame, but rather than losing a few buck on a bad movie, you could loose your life.
