Hi All,

Would it be possible to build the Airfix Tropical Hurricane( A05129) as a none tropical version?....also, can anyone recommend any decent reference books on the Hurricane?
Cheers

As for books, what particular types of reference.

One of the best is probably Francis Mason's The Hawker Hurricane. Seems it is  still available
https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss ... +Hurricane

There is also the Modellers Dat file and Squadron In Action.

Yes it is.  I looked into this and all the non-tropical parts are present as well.

You can build Trop, Non Trop or Sea version.
Nope, don't care. Why do you ask?

Classic Aircraft: Their History and How to Model Them

This is an old Airfix book by PSL that was issued when the 1:24 scale Airfix kits were first released.
I just Google the title and search the results.

Try the Mushroom Yellow Series book on the Hurricane.

The plastic in every boxing of the new tool Airfix Mk.I kit, BoB, box set with vehicles and figures, Trop and Sea Hurricane are the same.

Hurricane references, some good suggestions, but a warning, it seems every Hurricane reference book is based upon the work of F.K Mason, and that has some flaws.
Example, Mason states that approx 100 Sea Hurricane IC's were built, and this is then repeated in every Hurricane book...  except
https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/ind ... -markings/

the Revised version of the FK Mason Hurricane book (from 1986 or 1990) is pretty good but be warned the plans in it are utter garbage despite having his name on them...
the only decent Hurricane plans are by AL Bentley, why?

Also, from a modellers perspective, they usually lack accurate details....
example
https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/ind ... ers-guide/

this is the best guide on the subject I know of anywhere after contributions from various members of BM.  This is not in any book I have seen.

The new tool 1/48th Airfix hurricane has the Spitfire Rotol and DH Hurricane units if you are interested, and it's possible to fit either set of blade to either spinner, I have seen a couple of builds online with DH blades on the Rotol spinner

If you can be bothered, read this thread
https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/ind ... -ask-here/

it is 45 pages now,  but it has masses of links, and a lot of information in all in one place you will not find elsewhere,  note, if you read information to the contrary to what is posted in this thread, it's probably wrong!

This is the best build of the new tool 1/48th Airfix Hurricane I have seen.
https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/ind ... t-1150-pm/&

this is still an excellent introduction for NW Europe Hurricane camo and markings

Any questions, please ask
