A&A Model (a Modelsvit imprint) Piaggio Hammerhead UAV is a new release, and as soon as it was announced I wanted one. I know knothing about it, but it ws just one of those cool looking subjects i just had to have.
You can already see moulding improvements on this kit, so Modelsvit, and a lot of other limited run companies, should be congratulated on this.

Construction as always starts with building as many sub assemblies as possible, there are no clear parts for this kit, and all putty/seam work done as early as possible.

My method for doing seams is to tape along each side of the seam, give a rough sand, putty, and when dry rough and smooth sand, all with the tape in place. Once all major sanding is done, tape is removed, and then a light smooth feathering is all that is needed with minimal detail loss.

And seams are gone. Next up is a quick coat of XF1 to make sure.

First engine nacelle on. Not too bad a fit,and some dry fitting to make sure alignment is correct. 20180604_215033[1].jpg 20180604_215330[1].jpg 20180605_222313[1].jpg 20180605_222400[1].jpg

Engine nacelles are now both on. Not too bad a fit, and a fairly 20180606_212614[1].jpg 20180606_212623[1].jpg positive fit for the nacelle, lower plate and wing, with only minimal adjusting and putty needed.

Finally managed to get some garage time in, which has seen Tamiya XF1 sprayed onto the putty/seam lines. So far all looks good. 20180623_205357[1].jpg 20180623_205410[1].jpg

The Hammerhead is starting to take some shape now. Wings, tail planes, canards and pylons are on. Some electronic panels on, and most putty work done. This hasn's needed much putty work or sanding.

The biggest problem I have had with this kit though, was that I glued the wings on backwards!!! Must have been a late tired night that one. It was several nights later when I released this. How dumb can you feel! Wings came of and back on again without any dramas.

Next will be work on the undercarriage. The antennas will be left of until painting is finished. 20180701_065051.jpg 20180701_065056.jpg 20180701_065115.jpg 20180701_065130.jpg

With how the main landing gear is designed, I figured it would be easier to install them now, paint the air frame, and then mask around the wheel bays and paint them and the landing gear. So they are now in, as is the smaller non protruding electronics parts. The antennas that stick out, undercarriage doors, wheels will all get painted and added separately.
