The Shinomiya Girls' High School
About the Shinomiya Girls' High School
|The Shinomiya Girls' High School is a private high school exclusively for girls operated by the Shinomiya Educational Foundation and founded by the Shinomiya Corporation, the Rabenschwarz Group and the Weiss Foundation.|
The Shinomiya Girls' High School is a high class high school attended by mostly children of upper middle and upper class families. The school system is heavily based on discipline, borrowing many concepts from military academies such as the National Defence Academy of Japan. The Shinomiya Girls' High School's educational ideal of the school is self-discipline and while the school system may be very similar to a military academy, it differs in that students of the Shinomiya Girls' High School are expected to discipline themselves rather than rely on the school. Students are encouraged to be proactive and act on their own accord in contrast to military academies, where students are expected to act on orders. To make the difference easier to understand, while students of military academies are expected to be obedient and follow orders, students attending the Shinomiya Girls' High School are expected to follow proper behaviour and how to act in situations without being told how to. Of course, failure to meet the expectation of the school is punished and it is not uncommon for students to be permanently removed from the Shinomiya Girls' High School if the school is convinced that a student is not suitable for the school.
Tuition fees at the Shinomiya Girls' High School range from 2 million to 3 million year per academic year with additional fees for the first year, educational materials and various other costs. As a school for high income families who want their children to succeed, the Shinomiya Girls' High School offer no scholarships. Unlike many schools similar to the Shinomiya Girls' High School, the school does not provide its students with dormitories as part of the cost. The school does have its own dormitory build next to the school, directly connected to the school, however these dormitories are operated similar to public apartments with students having to cover the cost of bills such as electricity and water themselves as it is considered part of their education in how to live independently. The dormitories are only available to students of the Shinomiya Girls' High School and while most students opt to rent a room, students are free to opt for other accommodations.
There are very few lessons that the Shinomiya Girls' High School offers and the curriculum consist of compulsory subjects along with optional subjects. The compulsory subjects include Japanese, mathematics, biology, physics, chemistry, geography and history. In addition to a few other subjects, the Shinomiya Girls' High School also includes Shinto as one of its compulsory subjects. As optional subjects, students are free to study subjects such as business, law, medicine and various other subjects. The Shinomiya Girls' High School is also the only school in the world to offer Orbments as a subject, after becoming the only school to receive permission from the Rabenschwarz Group to teach about Orbments.
The Shinomiya Girl's High School currently has 300 students with 20 students per home room and 5 home room classes per year. The school itself is able to hold a maximum of around 600 students.
|The Shinomiya Girls' High School, as a school that has just recently opened, is a very modern and consists of three main buildings. Each building is three-storeys and are connected via corridors so that there is access to all buildings from the inside.|
The first building is where the regular, all-purpose classrooms are located. The second building is where specialised classrooms such as the science lab, library and cafeteria are located. Finally, the third building is where sports related facilities can be found such as the assembly hall and swimming pool as well as the storage for outdoor sports equipment. In addition to these three buildings, the school has an outdoor field suitable for a wide range of sports as well as an on campus shrine.
Next to the Shinomiya Girls' High School is the school's dormitory. The dormitory holds 600 spacious living units, each consisting of 2 en-suite bedrooms, a living area, a dining area and a kitchen area. While each living unit is rented out individually, the dormitory does have a maximum capacity of 1200 residents. Only students of the Shinomiya Girls' High School are eligible to rent a room and the monthly rent is around 75,000 yen per month along with a 5,000 yen management fee and additional fees during the first month of renting. Utility fees such as internet, gas and water are the responsibility of the students. The first floor of the dormitory has several shops and restaurants operated by the Rabenschwarz Group.
