Well that clears up some stuff ha. I was always envious of the threads I have seen where people with spirit engines where in the upper 40s and even reaching 50mpg. I was puzzled when I was only getting 150miles or so to a tank. 

I think I have a vacuum leak somewhere. When I start the bike cold, she will initially start-up fine for a few seconds and then idle really slow/rough to where it will die. I'll have to use the choke (even when it's 80+ degrees outside) for a minute or two. Once the bike is warmed up, it idles just fine. I'm planning on replacing the carb insulators and replacing the sub-air filter tube connectors on the carb as well.

I have the spirit engine in my tourer and your numbers are the same as mine. I think I remember a guy saying he was getting 50 mpg with the spirit engine but the best I have ever got was 44 or 45 mpg. Your plugs look like you might be burning a little oil tho. Mine looked like that but worse when I still had the original engine in mine, that's the reason I swapped the spirit engine because of the oil consumption.

Like this. After gapped to 032 running jardine slip ons with a slight pop so standard jetting.
