With the Royal star you really don't need a 6th gear as smooth as it is, guess it would help gas millage at higher speeds though, it still gets 35mpg doing 75mph which indicates 80mph on the speedometer as the gauge is 5mph off like our T's and doesn't seem to alter too much with wind or hills etc, on my trip to Canada I went through high head winds cross winds etc and still the gas millage was much better then the T in that situation, I guess that big motor just doesn't have to work as hard as the 1100cc in our T's

Hey Frank! Here is some info on the older RSTD which we talked about at the Rally this year and the later one's like mine turns out the early ones were detuned by over 20 HP compaired to the 05-09 models like the one I have, here is some info:

 97 RSTD 2005 RSTD differences
the early models are detuned to about 20hp. The 2005 and up have the same engine (hp) as the Venture.

Just googled and found these links. According to them the early bike had 75hp and the later one has 97hp.

Sat on an older Royal Star Venture the other day, not sure what year, around 2003 or 4 I think. Took me 3 tries to get it up off the kickstand, Those things are HEAVY!

Clev:Well I guess the older ones had more of a lean on the kickstand mine is no effort to get off the stand , not much of a lean nothing like the Ace T has, its a 2005 Royal Star Tour Deluxe, the Ventures are the Yamaha's version of the Valk Interstate, mine is the Yamaha version of the Valk Tourer model, its more effort to get my Ace T off the side stand then it is my RSTD.
