After trying two different Mustangs, I finally took the advice of Fredrider, Cleve, and icandoitfaster and tore into one of my stock seats. I carefully removed some of the stock foam starting about 4 inches from the nose removing about 3/8 inch then increasing the removal to about 1 inch of foam from about an inch forward of the widest section to about 11/2 inches from the rear top section. I used 3m Scotch Brite carbide coated foam discs for much of the removal along with an Exacto knife with a matte blade and a Dremel with dome abrasive wheels. I purchased some pads from e-bay made and sold by a company called Sturgis Midwest. These pads are Memory Foam and 3/4 inch gel and are meant to tie on under the stock seat and become a direct seating surface. I instead  used 3M 77 spray adhesive and adhered them permanantly to the existing foam with a careful focus on the vertical rise at the tailbone point of impact. On the pillion, I removed about 1/2 inch of material from an inch foam frame around it and adhered the pad directly into that void. Lastly I was able to order a slip cover replacement made by Mustang (Part# 77500) and have pulled that over and not stapled it as of yet. I'm going to click off 500 or so miles and adjust before final stapling. It snowed here today so my test riding has not begun but the seat feels much better than stock but retains the leg position although maybe 1/2 inch higher and the support at the back seems much better. It looks fantastic with the Mustang slip cover and Mustang of course has their logo in it so one would be certain it was their product. My total investment $103.00 for the Mustang cover, $111.00 for the pads, 18.00 for disc and 3m77 spray adhesive from the body supply shop. $232.00 and I hope this is the right support. Also Mustang also makes this cover with leather fringe under model 77510 they say out of stock but mine came within a week. Theya are made to order as the demand for T seat accessories is not high.

That sounds great! I hope the road test is successful.

I'll bet the forum would like to see photos. As for me, since we're practically neighbors, I'd like to see the seat (and the rest of your T) in person.

Whether your modifications prove comfortable or not, I am impressed with your surgical skills, but I do hope your efforts are rewarded with full gas tank range comfort and also all-day riding comfort.  Good luck.

Mark,
How I would love to post some pics. I can't figure this forum out. I've tried in the past with no success.
