I can't believe the amount of stupidity in this case. The Safeway manager who insisted on calling the police obviously shouldn't be a manager for sticking so blindly to "policy" over $5 worth of sandwiches.
The Honolulu police are also incredibly married to their policy. Why they couldn't book the man and wife separately and let one of them watch their young daughter so she wouldn't have to spend the night in protective custody is a mystery. Why not have an officer watch the girl until her parents were finished if it was absolutely necessary to book them at the same time.
Contrary to what you might think after hearing the story, there are some people in Honolulu who are not pinheads!
