I'm looking up the EWG website for a product that I want to use. I've always taken their advice however, I just noticed that every single product even the ones that have their highest harzard ratings are given a link where you can go and actually BUY the item.
I realise that it's a way to make money and this site probably operates on donations and needs people to click on links, but this seems so hypocritical to me. If you're advocating for healthier cosmetics/chemicals for consumers and something is a known cancer/allergy risk to someone, why would you then tell them where they can go and get it? Why not promote the products that are in keeping with your mission?
I don't get this.
p.s. I have to share my horrible cancer scare no time right now. All I can say is if you're using moist toilet paper wipes that contain the ingredient methylchloroisothiazolinone, please seriously consider discontinuing using the product. The products I used were cottonelle wipes and clean and fresh wipes.
"What should you look for and avoid in products?
Avoid products that list any of the following names in the ingredients, MSDS or package insert:
Methylchloroisothiazolinone (MCI) or 5-chloro-2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one; Kathon; 5-chloro-2-methyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one
Methylisothiazolinone (MI) or 2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one; 2-methyl-3(2H)-isothiazolone; 2-methyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one"

This has been discussed since at least the 1980s. (Kathon is the trade name for methylchloroisothiazolinone/methylisothiazolinone (MCI/MI), a common preservative):
Contact Dermatitis. 1989 Aug;21(2):107-8.
