So far I don't think I screwed anything up. Good luck with all that.

Looks good Rob! I liked the old format better but that is just a matter of getting used to the new one. Thanks for keeping it going.

Hi Doug,

Me too. I liked the old format but things change (sucks) but it's not like we got a choice I guess. One reason I stayed with NW54 so long was their format. I even asked if their software was for sale but was told NO! I thought maybe I could pump it out on my own server--if I had one, I don't, whatever.

I'm wondering if I can edit the stuff up top but I haven't figured that out yet. Some editing is only about color. :)

This will do, I think. If you're logged in, you get a button that shows what posts are still unread. That might be handy some days. Of course, the first thing we have to do is to go read the recent posts and then click "Mark all read". Right now, it tells me that I have thousands of posts to read (presumably all the posts from the old site).

Yeah they've literally transfered everything but the software thinks it's all new posts.

Hi All -

I've been checking out this new platform.  I assumed that all of the HCL Chat Room's history (20+ years worth) was transferred to this platform.  However, the "search" feature does not reveal all the results that I'd expect it to.  For example, when I search on "shingles", I don't see any posts prior to the recent post that I did last week...and I know there are many posts having the word "singles" in the title/post.  What am I missing?  Has anyone else had any luck doing searches of the entire database?  The other thing I noticed is that when I access the site on my iPad, doing a search does not take me to the actual search selection screen where I can define exactly what I'm looking for.  I've had to do the search on our PC instead in order to get to that screen.  Our 20+ years of HCL discussions are absolutely priceless so I hope we can continue to access them.  I'd appreciate some guidance.

Thanks,
Helen

I don't know what's going on.  Sometimes, when you import a bunch of information, it takes a while for the search system to find everything.  If that's the only issue, then search will probably start working after a delay for the system to catch up (days or weeks).

I looked at the menu of setup options on this new software. I can't even find search, though I have tried searching with the magnifying glass-symbol at the top--maybe I found it? I tried a word I knew existed waaaaay back. It found nothing. It may limit the time, date, subject after one year? I don't really know what's up with the new stuff and I'm slow to study it because I don't really like it much and have other things to do.

I agree, a lot of info that was at our fingertips seems hard to get to but it's one of the things that can happen when someone improves things. I have a lots of places on the web, and off, that have been improved and they suck--like Windows 10 for example, or dropping a product at the Commissary on Camp Pend, or making the Citi Bank page better.

In time there may be a solution and in time I may find it. Right now I'm dealing with my home association because they improved some things around my home. At the present time I am getting the free version of this site. Perhaps I may buy into the site and perhaps that'll give me more options like editing the above home page that is slightly off kilter (not fully centered the way I want it to be). However, I'm slow to purchase a Tapatalk account because I don't really like it much. But we do have a place to gather and exchange HCL experiences. And, there are some changes that I do like--but it's small consolation because I really don't need them, like how many people looked at a post, or how many folks posted under a post.

I would encourage anyone who has an interest in this HCL site to explore what they can and feel free to let me know HOW-TO.

Also, I'm having one other site moved over. It' a site for Marines (improved?). I hope they do not cross-over with this site because Marine interests are a bit different than HCL subject matter. The two don't compliment each other for a host or reasons.

Rob

Hi Rob -

I agree w/your comments about ‘improving’ things.  Someone once told me that “change = progress”....but I’m not convinced that’s always true.  In any case, at least we still have a platform on which to share.....so, onward and upward!  I’ll keep working with it & share any discoveries as I go.  Thanks, again, for taking the lead on this and for the time you’ve put into it.  Enjoy your weekend.  We here in the Northeast are praying for warmer, drier weather - so far, we’re being robbed of our Spring!

Helen :-)

I'm from the Northeast; Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, New York. I was in Portland last Nov. I have friends moving from NH to TN. Another is a snowbird from Portland to Yuma, AZ. I do not miss the cold weather, but I sure did grow up in it. HA! I may have to ask the creators of the new site how to do some things. I can't see where I can delete the DONATE button, or edit the homepage at the top. We'll see.

I'm in California but where in NH are you going to be treated? Why NH? Where are you in New England; Mass, NH, ME, etc.? I grew up in New England=all over.

I think that Dot's going to be at the National Institutes of Health (N-I-H, not NH).
