After an 11 year hunt I would like to thank Tom Wingham of the 102 Squadron Association and also Steve Heppenstall who must take full credit for identifying and locating the crash site of my father's aircraft(Tom for sheer persistence and Steve for some incredible work on the ground).
Since I first started looking into this story back in 1995 I must have racked up 1000s of hours on reserach (thanks also to Ian and the guys from 57 rescue for lots of invaluable help and info).
May 5th 2006 will be 63 years since the aircraft came down and hopefully - it will also be the day when appeals are published in the Glasgow press for relatives of the only crew member I haven't yet traced (F/Off Baxter) to come forward and complete the picture.
I have spoken with relatives of all of the other crew members:
Sgt Happold - pilot
Sgt Barratt - nav (my father)
Sgt Brownlie - wop
Sgt Bowles - Flt Engr
Fl Off Baxter - bomb aimer
Sgt McGregor - AG
Sgt Jones - AG
The long-planned book can now, finally, come to fruition.
Congratulations on a job well done.
I also have found six members of a halifax crews relatives with an elusive seventh to find.
